The Riot Quelled—January 6

Writer's picture: JF BierleinJF Bierlein

I cannot hear your words

While your anger alone is speaking

While your voice drips bitterness

And An Inadequacy of speech.

I can hear

But I cannot listen

To what you shout

What you scream

And what you curse.

Who has harmed you?

Who has really harmed you?

I can see

Then I ask

What are you really angry about?

And I believe that if you try to be honest

If you can be silent and still

And still remember what truth is

You will find the true object of your anger inside

There is an empty place that you haven’t located yet

Find that place and you will stop shouting.

But keeping my silence

I will not break my peace for your emptiness.
