The Hebrew word “mitzvah” is used to describe divine commandments,
But to “do a mitzvah” means to do a kind and unselfish act.
Let us say that you encounter a person in difficulty or need
And you do a mitzvah--
A small kindness that costs you nothing
But means everything to them.
You have brought the divine light into two lives.
A mitzvah recognizes that we are all human
And is the moment when we bring divinity to that fact.
By doing a mitzvah every day
You have opened a light to shine in a dark world.
And now…a (relatively clean) joke!
My friend was dating a comparative theologian, but they broke up. All he thought about was sects.
