The Coin of Kindness

Writer's picture: JF BierleinJF Bierlein

I heard once that

“Kindness is the currency welcome everywhere.”

But the idea of kindness as a “currency”

Devalues its intrinsic value

By presupposing a transaction.

No kindness is freely given

Like air and like oxygen

We all need it.

We often analyze the source

Or measure the quantity

Or weigh the impact of kindness

Instead of taking it into our hearts

And nourishing it to help it grow so large

That we have to give some of it away.

And it is still welcome everywhere.

Heads or tails, it is beautiful

The head of kindness is its outer beauty

The tail is the beauty it fosters in us.
